I've been busy lately writing the business plan for my new business, which just happens to be a good old-fashioned brick and mortar store.
That's right, the hotshot Internet guru is diversifying again, this time opening a brick and mortar business (which will, of course, have a website and online store, duh).
The truth is, despite what you hear from those who tell you that the Internet is the only true pathway to riches, brick and mortar businesses are thriving like never before.
As long as women enjoy trying on shoes and men enjoy test driving pickup trucks and kids enjoy squeezing stuffed animals, there will be brick and mortar stores.
Make no mistake, there certainly is tons of money to be made online, but if you ignore the off-line opportunities, you're not doing yourself entrepreneurial justice.
That's the topic of my column this week as I ask the question: Is Brick and Mortar A Passing Fad?

Is Brick and Mortar A Passing Fad?
During the dot-com boom the mantra was "Brick and mortar is dead!" Then when most of the dot-com’s crashed like an elephant sitting on a wicker chair, the mantra suddenly changed back to "The Internet is dead! Long live brick and mortar!"
In both instances those doing the shouting were dead wrong (and highly annoying). The correct mantra should be "Long live ecommerce enabled brick and mortar!" It’s not as catchy, but a lot more accurate.
Are You Fed Up With eBay?
For many people, their first experience of working online involves selling products on eBay. This was how I got started back in 1998 and I know countless other people that have done the same.
However, it is important to remember that eBay is not the 'be all and end all' - there is a much bigger online world out there. My reason for mentioning this is that I have spoken to three people this week who each make a decent full or part-time income on eBay but who are fed up with it and looking to move in other directions.
